Wrestlers fight (someone) by holding and pushing instead of by hitting, kicking, or punching.

Wrestlers try to pin each other to the ground – twisting, grappling and pressing against the opponent.

The wrestlers here create wrestling anew, as a shared activity without history or predetermined trajectory. This kind of wrestling is not bound to numbers or embodiments – in other words to age, size or gender.

Wrestling feels like something – intensely. Feeling is the starting point of the sound design of the performance: the audience is surrounded by the lowest frequencies of the bass range, the ones that are felt rather than heard.

PAINI (WRESTLING) is the first collaboration by the core team formed by choreographer Anna Maria Häkkinen, dancer Lotta Suomi and dramatist Sanna Uuttu. The workgroup is completed by sound designer Tatu Nenonen, lighting designer Kristian Palmu and performers Wilhelm Blomberg, Sofia Simola and Tuomas Vaahtoluoto.

Each performance is amplified by 11 wrestlers from a wrestling club organized by the core team. The club’s members are Geoffrey Erista, Inka Haapamäki, Niina Hosiasluoma, Mia Jalerva, Ella-Noora Koikkalainen, Laura Kärkäs, Jermu Lakka, Louna-Tuuli Luukka, Marlon Moilanen, Iiro Näkki, Justus Pienmunne, Olivia Pohjola, Hanna Ryti, Pauliina Sjöberg, Laura Sorvari and Pietu Wikström.
