Elina Pirinen: Personal Symphonic Moment

Choreographer Elina Pirinen and team perform on-stage autopsies to Dimitri Šostakovitš’ 7th symphony, known as the Leningrad-symphony. The performance is born, lives, and is destroyed through the extremely faithful and yet unfaithful relationship of choreographer, three dancers, a writer and a light designer to this enormous musical work. This dance piece which articulates with an ethos of personality the aspects of a human person and humanity fearlessly delves deep into the subjective and complex inner essence of the individual and thus an area fundamentally touching the fabric of society.

From the vomiting of the inner self, analyzed and taken to the extreme, as well as the effect of Šostakovitš’ symphony, the working group creates primitive and intellectual symphonic moments about peace, exaggeration, consolation, arousal, idiotism, serving, eroticism, paranoid fantasizing, shame, pity, banality, enslavement, danger and sentimentality.
