During this workshop, Caroline Eckly will share some of the themes and tasks that inspired her during recent collaborations with Elina Pirinen, Marcelo Evelin and Eszter Salamon. In the spring 2023, she will join the creation of Mortal Tropical Dances by Elina Pirinen at Zodiak.
Caroline Eckly on the themes of this workshop day:
“I have been working as a dancer since the late 90es with many choreographers within quite a big range of different aesthetic expressions. What keeps on triggering my interest is how we, as dancers, can create a space, a concentration, an atmosphere, a landscape; how I can disconnect from being myself, become something else, fictionalize the body, not through theatrical approach but by investigating a specific physicality, and how I can sustain this kind of fiction. I am fascinated by how a body carrying a particular movement quality can call for a multi-imaginary and how subsequently the fantasy can fuel the movement. How a certain body-awareness can feed the subconscious and how the subconscious can feed the consciousness. How to dive into a specific state and bring to life figures through a peculiar attention to certain body parts.”
This workshop day is open to all adults and does not require any previous experience on dance.
Caroline Eckly was born in Paris. She started her professional career as a ballet dancer with Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse. She rapidly turned to contemporary creation and worked as a freelancer in France and Germany for some years, among others with Blanca Li. She worked at the National Theatre in Nuremberg, Germany between 2002 and 2008 where she danced for various choreographers (such as Jorma Elo, Jo Kanamori, Rui Horta, Tero Saarinen, Rodolfo Leoni, Russel Maliphant). She joined Carte Blanche, the Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance in 2008 and has participated in all the productions since, along with doing her own projects. She recently toured a solo created in collaboration with the Brazilian choreographer Marcelo Evelin.
