In this workshop, improvisation is explored through movement, voice and speech with the objective of building courage for exploration of different layers and directions of sound and movement. How do I discover myself through my movement, voice and speech? How are voice and speech part of my personal idiom of movement? What kind of movement does my voice evoke in me?
The course is open for both hobbyists and professional dancers. It continues where the previous Through the Layers workshop (spring 2016) ended, but the earlier workshop is not a precondition for participation. We want to encourage individuals from different backgrounds to share their ideas about voice and movement and to expand their expressive potentials. As a skill, improvisation permeates all strata of life. It is a creative practice that can be used in the studio, on the stage and in everyday life. A key part of the course is exploration of the different movement histories and experiences of the participants.
Improvisation veterans Pia Lindy and Heini Nukari have worked with the LAYERS project since January 2015. The objective of the project is to find ways to develop and encourage improvisation skills for both performance and teaching applications.
Pia Lindy is a dancer and a choreographer whose works combine humour and seriousness, innovative dance performance and critical social thinking. She explores improvisation and process-based methods through her work in different environments and contexts.
Heini Nukari is a dancer who finds sound and movement equally powerful modes of expression. She has explored the connection between sound and movement through improvisation, music, field recordings and the Body is Voice method.

Cancellations must be communicated on the last cancellation day by 4 pm the latest. Please check this course's last day of cancellation from above. With the exception of injuries and illnesses certified in writing by a doctor, cancellations made later than the deadline are subject to full course fee.
Zodiak's courses and workshops can also be paid using pre-paid Liikuntaseteli and Kulttuuriseteli vouchers (Smartum Oy) as well as Virikeseteli vouchers (Edenred Oy). You can pay with the vouchers in the beginning of the first class (only exact amounts) or you can bring the vouchers to Zodiak office (open weekdays 11 am to 4 pm). It is not possible to pay the course fee with cash.
