In the Indulge the Movement course led by Anna Maria Häkkinen, we dance to music.

Guided by walking, jumps and turns, we create small dances, paying attention to the qualities of movement, rhythms and pauses. We will dance to music ranging from classical to electronic, allowing everyday movements to transform into dance through tempo, music and feeling the body’s weight.

Anna Maria Häkkinen is based in Helsinki and works as a choreographer, performer and teacher. Her latest works include Afterglow, low lingering slips of light (2023), performed at the Performa Biennial in New York, and Phoenix – a deep relaxation serotonin release (2023), created in collaboration with dance students from the University of the Arts Helsinki's Theatre Academy. In both works, composer/sound designer Keliel’s music has played an enabling role for the dance. Anna Maria also works as a performer in the work Baroque Pearl – Dances for Spring and Silence (2024) by Liisa Pentti and the art community rendezvous. Anna Maria’s artistic work is characterised by questions of choreographic tradition and composition in addition to collaboration. Anna Maria graduated from the University of the Arts Helsinki's Theatre Academy with an MA in Choreography in 2012. She has worked as a guest teacher at the University of the Arts Helsinki, UrbanApa and Zodiak. Next, she will perform in Anna Mustonen's and Marianna Henriksson's piece A Composition.

Indulge the Movement – Contemporary Dance for All courses are mainly instructed by the choreographers and performers of Zodiak's previous, current and upcoming season's performances. Indulge the Movement courses are suitable for everyone, and you can join even without any prior dance experience. The classes focus on motion and movement while also offering an opportunity to explore various dance practices through alternating instructors.

All you need are comfortable clothes suitable for movement and a water bottle. During the classes, we dance barefoot or with socks. The courses are held in Finnish and/or English according to the needs of the participants.
