Welcome to the night.
Flashdance approaches the night as a unique condition for both social systems and bodies. It opens up possibilities for altered ways of being, for turnarounds and after images. At night foreground and background begin to blur, life and lifelessness, genders, animals, and sceneries become mixed and equally indistinguishable. The invisible and visible coexist. Flashdance operates on the outskirts of our vision and aims to create a fully kinesthetic viewing experience.
Flashdance is the second part of a trilogy by W A U H A U S (Anni Klein, Samuli Laine, Jussi Matikainen, Jarkko Partanen, Heidi Soidinsalo, named after famous dance movies. The first part, Dirty Dancing, was premiered at Zodiak – Center for New Dance in the autumn of 2014.
