Side Step Festival's Final Club will take place on Sat, Feb 10, in Kaapelitehtaan Konttori cafe. The programme for the evening includes the panel discussion Impossible RadicalismSara Grotenfelt's Magic Show, and a gig by the up and coming artist Orvokki.

Schedule for The Final Club

At 17:00–18:30 Panel discussion: Impossible Radicalism

The Final Club of the festival will open with a panel discussion, reflecting on what has been seen and experienced at the festival, and what kind of politics is woven around impossible art. We will consider which characteristics of performing arts can enable the radical new.

The discussion will lead to questions of what is possible and what is impossible. Can art create distance in capitalism, can it question our private lives, break our cautious existence and change our lives?

The panel includes Eetu Virén, Jenna Viro and Olavi Uusivirta. The discussion will be moderated by Jenni-Elina von Bagh, Artistic Director of Zodiak. The discussion will be held in Finnish.

Eetu Virén is a researcher, translator and doctor of social sciences. His work has explored the political transformative power of art, among other things. Virén's latest collection of essays, Esseitä, was published at the end of 2023.

Jenna Viro is an artist and writer. Her interests include the ethics of art and gender issues. Her debut collection Tuhkimoleikkaus was published in spring 2023.

Olavi Uusivirta is a musician, actor and performer. In addition to his multidisciplinary artistic work, Uusivirta has been a prominent voice in the social debate, speaking out on issues such as musicians' livelihoods, the protection of Helsinki's urban nature and a ceasefire in Gaza.

At 20:00 Sara Grotenfelt: Magic Show

Magic Show, by dance artist Sara Grotenfelt, is a sort of spectacle where mundane objects get the attention they deserve. A magician and a bunny put themselves on display and do everything they can to keep the show going.

At 21:30 Orvokki

When an emotion is hard to describe, it can be turned into music. Orvokki's music lets you float away to somewhere else for a moment - into a place where even the most vague difficult feelings can be experienced and processed.

Studying music technology in Berlin, Germany, Orvokki gathers influences from all over the world. Her work is collagelike, with elements of world music, unusual structures and rhythmic surprises intertwining into an electrically pulsating dream.

Orvokki's debut album, published by Luova Records last Novemebr, got a five-start review in Helsining Sanomat from Ilkka Mattila.
