Zodiak's international Side Step Festival will be held in 2022 from February 12 to 20. The venues at the Cable Factory will be, in addition to Zodiak Stage, the Erkko Hall and Pannuhalli of the newly opened Tanssin talo. In addition, one performance will be seen in the Louhisali of the Espoo Cultural Center, in cooperation with the Espoo City Theater.
The choreographers of the 2022 festival are Cullberg / Jefta van Dinther (SE), Amala Dianor (FR), BamBam Frost (SE), Silvia Gribaudi (IT), Maija Hirvanen (FI), Johanna Nuutinen (FI), Elle Sofe Sara (NO) and Teresa Vittucci (SZ) .
The 2022 festival is the 20th Side Step. The anniversary year marks a great leap for the festival, as as many as five of the eight works will be seen on the stages of Tanssin talo (House of Dance), which opens in early February 2022.
Side Step Festival, first held in 1996, has grown over the years from a small biennial event showcasing the heritage and iconic names of American postmodern dance to an internationally renowned contemporary dance festival. The festival has introduced the Helsinki audience in particular to the latest trends and central artists in European contemporary dance.
During the anniversary year, Side Step begins a new phase. The program continues to focus on bringing in front of the Finnish dance audience artists from different backgrounds, whose works both carry the culture of their own generation and update the conceptual thinking of contemporary dance on both large and small stages. With the new stages of Tanssin talo, the festival has the opportunity to present these current works to even larger audiences.
