In autumn 2019, the W A U H A U S art collective has been involved in the production of a performance called Sapiens, that Minna Leino has dramatized based on the best-selling book of the same name by historian Yuval Noah Harari, to the main stage of the Finnish National Theatre. The collective also offers two workshops for professionals that explore the themes of Sapiens at Zodiak during the autumn. Participants of the workshops are asked to see the performance at the national theatre before the course begins.
As dramatist Juha-Pekka Hotinen has said, dramaturgy means the organising of any material into a performance. The aim of the course is to introduce and explore different perspectives and ways of approaching dramaturgical thinking. One of the examples used in the workshop is Sapiens by the W A U H A U S art collective, which opens avenues into key dramaturgical questions, concepts and practices of the workgroup. The dramaturgical aspects of sound, light, space and the work of the performers are explored. We also focus on the relationships between stage and audience on one hand and between the production and the world around it on the other.
