In Jenni Kivelä’s course, we explore movement by focusing on the group’s collective energy, attentiveness and use of space.

In this Indulge the Movement -course we do physical exercises. For example, we work with themes such as blossoming, decomposition and the afterlife from different bodily perspectives.

We will tune into our ’internal weather’ and create dance from our personal experiences, guided by verbal instructions. Together, we will seek movement that resonates on a personal level. Depending on the group’s interests, some exercises may include writing tasks.

Jenni Kivelä is a choreographer, performer and teacher. She has been working in the field of dance since 2002 with the artistic group Jenni Kivelä & Kind People and created commissioned works for various groups in Finland and abroad.

Jenni’s work often stems from personal themes that expand into broader, universal narratives. She enjoys creating fictional, unique worlds, exploring movement – particularly when it conveys a message – and examining the bodily traces and memories of lived experiences. Through play and physicality, Jenni seeks to uncover the characters that lie within us all.

Jenni’s teaching fosters a creative, open and inclusive environment where everyone can be authentically themselves.

Indulge the Movement – Contemporary Dance for All courses are mainly instructed by the choreographers and performers of Zodiak's previous, current and upcoming season's performances. Indulge the Movement courses are suitable for everyone, and you can join even without any prior dance experience. The classes focus on motion and movement while also offering an opportunity to explore various dance practices through alternating instructors.

All you need are comfortable clothes suitable for movement and a water bottle. During the classes, we dance barefoot or with socks. The courses are held in Finnish and/or English according to the needs of the participants.
